In the past, swimming pool water treatment plants were limited to using chemicals that killed off the existing bacteria, viruses and parasites in the water. In addition, there was little control over the concentration of these chemicals within the treated water. For example, it was not possible to regulate the amount of chlorine used, or to control the amount of bacteria, virus or parasite that was allowed to grow in the water. Also, if the concentration of chemicals was too high, the water would often have a strong smell and taste. Fortunately, a new technology exists that will change the way people treat swimming pools.
