A sewage treatment plant is a facility that treats wastewater by removing solid and liquid wastes, as well as any harmful pollutants. There are several types of sewage treatment plants, but most commonly they are classified as primary, secondary, and tertiary.
The toilet is installed in a sewage treatment plant and works 24 hours a day. The waste is first pumped through a settling tank where solid matter separates from the water. Next it passes through a thick layer of sand to remove any remaining solid waste and then through a thin layer of activated carbon to remove odour. Finally the water is treated with an oxidising agent which converts the ammonia to nitrite, which is then removed by filtration. The resulting water is released back into the environment, ready to be recycled.
